Slow performance in west bay.

Recently GRIP network performance in west bay has been poor, and as many of you know I have been working on a solution to the issue.

I have narrowed the problem down to the over-land fiberoptic link that connects West Bay to Center Bay and have implemented a possible fix today.

The issue does not cause total disconnection, but rather causes packet-loss, varying from only 1 or 2% all the way up to 80% loss. The issue seems to be temperature or rain related so I will not be able to confirm the fix is indeed the solution until we wait out some worse weather (good weather today!)

That being said, I can confirm that from 5:15pm today onward (the time of the fix) there has been no measured packet-loss over the line, so things are looking good!

As always let me know if you have any questions or if you experience any problems.

    Hi Sean,

Hey, I just wanted you to know that, re: your 9/22 posting about "Slow performance in West Bay", coincidentally I arrived that day (last Saturday) to stay for the entire week...

It's now Wed night and I just saw your message about this tonight, so it's not the end of the full week yet -- BUT...

I have been online nearly all waking hours (I'm working here and there's a deadline involved, and so I DO mean "nearly *ALL*" waking hours!) -- and not once yet has there been any interruption of the wifi connection, like was definitely happening a lot, over the Summertime (and perhaps earlier? cannot remember!).

(not to say that it won't happen the minute after I post this message (smile), but...)

however, since I have no idea what a "packet" is, I cannot tell you anything about percentage of "packet-loss" (or not), sorry!
