Short Center Bay/West Bay outages

There has for the past while been a series of randomly timed short (1-5 minute) outages at the Center Bay Station effecting Center Bay and the West Bay Landing communities. I am looking into a solution for them now. If you are accessing the network from Center Bay or West Bay Landing and find you are unable to reach web sites, please wait for 5 or 10 mins and try again.

Power system work on main tower at Hope Point

I will be performing some calibration and upgrade work on the main station at Hope Point tomorrow (June 7th).

This work will be about the early afternoon and should not necessitate any down time.

This will increase my ability to monitor the status of the power system at hope point and will help evaluation if the new wind generator is doing a good enough job to prevent a repeat of last winters weekly hikes up the hill with fuel!

New test network segment for G.R.I.P.

Last weekend's work on the tower was completed successfully and we now have a new segment to the network operating on a different frequency. The new segment operates at a lower frequency then the existing infrastructure, allowing the signal to penetrate farther through obstacles such as trees. This will hopefully allow the connection of people who are in currently problematic areas of the island to join the G.R.I.P. Network!

Currently the 900mhz segment is only in test-mode, installed at the base of the tower. In time, once it has proven itself, we will be taking tower down to install the antenna high on the tower to provide better signal. At that point client installs would be possible for the new segment.

Users of the existing network segments have no need to switch over as this new segment only provides an advantage to those who are not able to reach the existing segments.

Scheduled downtime for G.R.I.P. Network on Canada Day

Ok folks, there will be a short outage on July 1st as I change out a radio at the main tower above Hope Point. The outage should last only a short time and is planed to occur in the afternoon.

As always, contact me if you have any questions!
